Cheryl has had Nash since he was a puppy and he has seen her through the loss of her father, then her mother, the illness of her brother and now her own declining health.  Cheryl currently has fainting spells, as well as other ailments that render her unable to work.

Since puppyhood, Nash made it his job to watch over Cheryl's father until he passed on, then Nash stood beside Cheryl's mother's wheelchair, keeping himself between her and others.  When Cheryl's mother passed on, Nash decided it was time to take care of Cheryl.

When Cheryl has an episode, Nash stays with her, licking her face to "protect" her until she revives.  From the time he was little, Nash has chosen to be a service dog.  Cheryl received a note from her doctor and Nash proudly wears his service vest.

Here's what happened:  Cheryl's apartment complex in Sacramento changed ownership resulting in Cheryl being notified that Nash's service dog assignment meant nothing to them and she would have to give up her dog or move.

Cheryl could not move by the 3 day deadline they gave her and felt forced to give up Nash.  We checked with legal channels and at that time it appeared that the apartment complex owners were within their legal (though perhaps not moral) rights.

We tried to find someone living anywhere between Sacramento and Reno to foster Nash until Cheryl could either work it out with the apartment owners or had enough time to move into another living situation.  There were many offers to adopt Nash, but few to foster him for an unspecified time, so he stayed with us.

Our multiple dog home with working adults was not the best place for Nash, as it was a dramatic change from everything he has ever known; but, he did great and now gets to go to his new home and be with Cheryl again.  Yipee!!
